Session 2: Complementary data and resources to inform road safety planning and implementation
On 25 March 2025, the second session of the Road Safety Capacity Building Program webinar series was delivered. The series, Data in Action: Using Global and Local Data Sources to Enhance Policy, Investment, and Implementation, is being co-delivered by the Asia Pacific Road Safety Observatory (APRSO), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the CAREC program.
More than 170 participants participated online for the second session, which focused on complementary data sources to inform road safety action.
Director of Lӧsningar Dr. Jessica Truong moderated the session, and was joined by lead speaker CEO of Global Road Safety Solutions Dr. Soames Job as well as Policy Analyst for the Asian Transport Observatory (ATO) Mel Eden and Deputy Director for the Road Traffic Safety Department and APRSO Focal for Cambodia Sattya Boran.
Dr. Job provided a practical overview of how different data sources can be used to immediately inform prioritized investment and implementation, and a range of examples of how key decision-makers can be influenced through existing and emerging data sources. Mel Eden presented on the recently published ATO and APRSO Road Safety Profiles, and a range of other data sources provided by ATO. Sattya Boran gave a practical case study of how data is used to create strategies in Cambodia, including the use of data to inform safety improvements to road infrastructure.
Participants engaged actively with a comprehensive set of questions which were addressed in an open Q&A session during the webinar.
