Session 5 of webinar series completed

The fifth and final session of the first Road Safety Capacity Building Program webinar series was delivered online to more than 130 participants on 6 May. The series, Data in Action: Using Global and Local Data Sources to Enhance Policy, Investment, and Implementation, was co-delivered by the Asia Pacific Road Safety Observatory (APRSO), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the CAREC program.  

The fourth session of the program focused on Facilitating & financing Road Safety Strategies and Action Through Data and Stakeholder Engagement with a panel of presenters outlining innovative data sources and approaches to effectively engage stakeolders to drive forward investment and impact. 

In particular, this session focused on:

  • How to effectively communicate with different stakeholders regarding road safety
  • Stakeholder engagement strategies for financing and strategy development

Blaise Murphet of BM Limited provided the first presentation, focusing on effective stakeholder engagement approaches to achieve stronger financing opportunities for road safety. This presentation was followed bya  series of speakers outlining tools, examples of action on the ground, and opportunities to engage key partners. These included:

  • Avi Silverman from the FIA Foundation, who outlined a recent report focusing on financing needs for road safety, and how the report can be used to engage key stakeholders to encourage increased investment

  • Jenny Xia from the Global Road Safety Partnership, who provided a case study of the adoption of a low-speed school zone in Malaysia through the innovative use of data sources in direct stakeholder engagement and advocacy

  • Ritu Mishra from the ADB, who provided an overview of the myriad ways in which the Bank utilizes data sources to ensure transport investments incorporate best practice safety measures

  • Dennis Mazingi from the George Institute for Global Health, who outlined a new Global Status Report on Child and Adolescent Road Safety, and key data that could be used to engage stakeholders. 

The Road Safety Capacity Building Program webinar series will has now moved to the second series, which focuses on Innovations in Safe and Sustainable Transport. Please go to the series website to register and see more information on speakers.
