APRSO Annual Meeting successfully held in Tokyo, Japan
The Asia Pacific Road Safety Observatory (APRSO) Annual Meeting and Study Tour was successfully held in Tokyo, Japan from October 7 -11. It was a dedicated program that aimed to expose APRSO member countries to key practices and stakeholders that could enhance urban road safety and sustainable transport management performance, and support the rapid development of institutional capacity to manage urban transport across the region.
The Annual Meeting and Study Tour were held in Chiyoda City, Tokyo Prefecture and Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture in Japan and a key day was also open to online participation.
More than 110 participants joined the program with a combination of in-person and online attendees.
The Annual Meeting and Study Tour was organized by the ADB Transport Sector Group in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences (IATSS). The grant fund for this activity was received from the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction (JFPR) financed by the Government of Japan through the ADB. The firm Blaise Murphet Limited (BM Limited) was also engaged to provide content, logistical, and coordination support.
Partnership with key government, non-governmental and private sector partners from Japan was a key focus of the program. APRSO and ADB worked closely with partners at JICA and IATSS to involve a comprehensive range of stakeholders from Japan to showcase leadership and innovation in road safety and sustainable urban transport.
A number of international and regional partners were also engaged and supported the program, including key APRSO partners such as the FIA, FIA Foundation, and UNESCAP, as well as the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety, World Bank, TRL, Global Road Safety Partnership and private sector partners such as Bridgestone, Honda and Mitsubishi Jisho Design.
