Road Safety and Urban Climate Sustainability in Focus at Session Three
On 10 June 2025, the third session of the Road Safety Capacity Building Program webinar series was held. The series, Innovations in Safe and Sustainable Transport: Road Safety as part of Liveable & Resilient Cities, is co-presented by the Asia Pacific Road Safety Observatory (APRSO), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the CAREC program.
The third session of the program, gathered 151 online participants, examined the opportunities to integrate road safety into the climate and sustainability agenda, and the ways in which improved road safety can support climate change initiatives.
In particular, this session explored on:
✅ Climate outcomes from road safety interventions
✅ Co-funding opportunities for urban sustainability outcomes
✅ Case study examples
Blair Turner, Global Road Safety Facility Consultant at The World Bank, emphasized the importance of building safe, resilient, and sustainable roads. Prasanthi Attwood, Senior Research Fellow at The George Institute for Global Health, spoke about the findings of the Risk Elimination on Walks to School (ReMWALKS) safe roads and air for school journey. Frank van Steenbergen, Director of MetaMeta, provided an overview of the ADB Green Roads Tool Kit. The session was moderated by Jessica Truong, Director of Lӧsningar, and included active participant engagement through Q&A and topical polls.
