Annual APRSO Meeting 2024

 

The Asia Pacific Road Safety Observatory (APRSO) Annual Meeting is a two-day event focused on safe and sustainable urban road transport from 8-9 October 2024 being held in Tokyo, Japan.

Note: Tuesday, 8 October is the only day available for hybrid online attendance and public registration.

Hosted by Asia Pacific Road Safety Observatory (APRSO) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences (IATSS), the Annual Meeting will engage a range of participants from governments, civil society, development partners, research institutes, and the private sector. 

The grant fund for this event was received from the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction (JFPR) financed by the Government of Japan through the ADB.

The objectives of the event are:

  • Building knowledge of best practices in urban road safety and sustainable transport management by studying best practices in the key functions of leading agencies

  • Understanding the philosophy and pathway behind Japan’s road safety record

  • Learning about specific data-driven interventions for urban road safety and sustainable transport

  • Planning the initial steps to develop projects to address safe and sustainable urban road transport challenges

The sharing of international and Japanese expertise will be a primary focus of this key regional event. The online and in-person sessions will feature speakers from a range of Government and non-governmental organizations from around the region and the world. 

WHAT TO EXPECT?

The event includes a range of capacity-building sessions, technical presentations and workshops and networking and engagement opportunities. For more details on the agenda, please see below. 

  • Tuesday, 8 October is available as a hybrid attendance, with online participation open to all stakeholders, and in-person attendance available for identified participants (who have already been contacted). Register below for online attendance. 
     
  • Wednesday, 9 October is available as in-person attendance for identified developing member country (DMC) and partner participants (who have already been contacted). Open registration is not available for this day. 

The event will be held in English, with Russian and Japanese translations.

For participants who are attending the APRSO Annual Meeting in-person in Tokyo, please note the event will be held at:

STUDY TOUR

Certain participants will engage in a full-week study tour in Japan from Monday 7 October - Friday 11 October.

PLEASE NOTE: if you have not already been contacted regarding the study tour this information will not be relevant for you.

The study tour is an opportunity for member countries of the APRSO to engage with a range of stakeholders from Japan and to visit a series of best-practice interventions. The study tour will include:

  • Dedicated lectures from leading Japanese and international experts
  • Outline of Japan’s approach to road safety and sustainable mobility
  • Opportunity to visit areas of Tokyo and Utsunomiya that have benefitted from road safety interventions
  • Opportunity to visit and engage with a range of Japanese agencies
  • Strong networking opportunities
  • Attendance of the APRSO Annual Meeting

The full study tour agenda, inclusive of the APRSO Annual Meeting will be shared directly to identified participants.
